Cost Explorer
See exactly where every euro goes — by service, instance, day, or team.
You got last month's Outscale invoice. It's a number. A big number. And you have no idea what produced it.
Was it that batch processing cluster someone spun up in February? The dev environment nobody turned off? The 500 GB of snapshots from a project that ended six months ago? You don't know. The invoice doesn't tell you. And the Cockpit console gives you a total — not an explanation.
That's the problem. Not the spending itself — the blindness.
What it does
Cost Explorer breaks your Outscale bill into pieces you can actually act on. Eight dimensions of breakdown, applied to every euro you spend:
- By service — compute, storage, network, snapshots, IPs
- By instance type — see which tinav5.c8r16 is eating your budget
- By day or month — spot the spike, trace it to the commit
- By account — multi-account view for teams managing several environments
- By tag — if you tag by project, team, or environment, the cost follows
- By region — compare eu-west-2 vs cloudgouv spending
- By operation type — reads vs writes, running vs stopped
- By resource ID — drill down to the single VM or volume
Daily granularity. Monthly aggregates. Exportable. Shareable. No more spreadsheets cobbled together from API dumps.
How it works
Connect your Outscale account with a read-only EIM key. Vextnd imports your consumption data automatically — daily, with full history backfill on first connection.
Open Cost Explorer and you see a chart. The default view shows your total daily spend for the current month. From there, you filter. Pick a date range. Group by service. Drill into compute. Filter to a specific instance type. Every click narrows the view until you're looking at exactly the cost driver you suspected.
Multi-account users see all accounts in one view — or filter to one. No switching consoles, no juggling credentials. One dashboard, every account.
The data updates daily. There's no "refresh" button to click, no import to trigger. Yesterday's costs are there when you open the page this morning.
Why it matters
You can't optimize what you can't see. That's not a platitude — it's the reason most cloud bills grow 15–20% year over year without anyone noticing until finance flags it.
Cost Explorer turns a monthly surprise into a daily signal. A €2,000 spike on a Tuesday is visible on Wednesday — not buried in next month's invoice. The team that caused it can explain it while they still remember what they did.
For teams managing multiple Outscale accounts — production, staging, dev, sandbox — the multi-account view alone saves hours of manual reconciliation every month. One screen instead of four consoles.
And when someone asks "why did our bill go up 30%?" — you answer in two clicks instead of two days.
